Storm Spotters

A weather/storm spotter is a trained volunteer who reports on local weather conditions to the National Weather Service (NWS) during severe weather events. Storm spotters are an important part of the SKYWARN program, which is run by the NWS. Storm spotters are typically amateur radio operators, although anyone with an interest in meteorology and a willingness to undergo training can become a storm spotter. Storm spotters provide valuable information to the NWS about the location, intensity, and movement of severe storms, which helps the NWS to issue accurate and timely warnings to the public. Storm spotters play a crucial role in protecting lives and property from the impacts of severe weather.
